Dearne Towns Memorial
A new memorial in Bolton-upon-Dearne Cemetery in 2014 listing 205 names form the First World War and 81 names from the Second World War, it is inscribed:
This memorial was dedicated on 3rd August 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the 1st World War 1914-1918
It carries the names of peopleof Bolton-Upon-Dearne, Goldthorpe and Highgate who lost their lives in the 1st World War and the 2nd World War 1939-1945
It was provided by the efforts and subscriptions of individual members of the local community, groups, schools and organisations.

Amongst the convoy was the Italian torpedo boat Circe. At 08:00 the Circe reported a contact with a submarine and that she turned in to attack. Hallows, of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire Reichswald Forest War Cemetery Navigator on Lancaster ME687 coded UL-S2 airborne at 22:00 from Elsham Wolds on a mission to Dortmund. Crashed at Hiddingsel, a small village 8 km of Dülmen, where all were buried 24 May 1944. They have been subsequently re-interred in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery. Twenty days previously the pilot had brought home a very severely damaged Lancaster which had been badly shot about by a Ju-88 from the raid on Mailly-le-Camp with this same crew, except for the Air Gunners [also listed on Goldthorpe memorial] |
