Sergeant (Air Gnr.) - Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve - 26 O.T.U. 6 November 1943, aged 36 Born in Bradford in Q4 1907 Son of Charles and Rachel Edmondson; Husband of Vera Edmondson, of Barnsley. In 1911 family lived at 4 West Street Eccleshill Bradford Lived at 17 Beaumont Avenue, Broadway, Barnsley Barnsley Cemetery The gravestone carries the inscription - "Thou takest only the best" Was part of the crew of Wellington X3924 which took off from its base of Wing, Bucks at 19:18 on an evening cross country training flight. At 22:08 it collided with Wellington LN295 of 27 O.T.U. Both Wellington's fell near the gates of Alconbury, Huntingdonshire which was occupied by the USAAF. Miraculously both pilots survive but the remaining crew/passengers were killed. |
