date no more was heard. P 222 failed to arrive at Algiers and was reported overdue on 21 December 1942. The Italians claimed to have sunk a submarine by depth charging from the Italian torpedo boat Fortunale on 12 December, south-east of Isola di Capri in position 40º29'N, 14º20'E.
