Was part of the crew of Dakota KG417 which was from 48 Sqn based at Down Ampney and was tasked to drop supplies to the drop zone north of Arnhem. Tragically as it approached the River Rhine a group of Ameriacn aircraft at a higher altitude - which shouldn't have been there - started to drop their supplies. One of the large aluminium containers hit the wing of KG417 which detached from the fuselage and the aircraft subsequently crashed on the banks of the River Rhine.
